Wedding Band Showcases
Having organised and attended many wedding band showcases over the years I’ve come to realise that there are pros and cons of the practice. Here is a brief insight into some thoughts for and against wedding band showcases.
Pros
- Less Intrusive than wedding viewings
- Usually off peak dates which suit many schedules
- Short and snappy performances
- Gives you an opportunity to meet the band
- More informal and can be more relaxed way to see a band
- Usually public functions and open access to all
Cons
- Can be hard to gauge likely crowd reactions
- Not a wedding or corporate environment so not like for like
- No dancing usually in pubs
- Can be in a hotel but usually in a pub (might not be to everyone’s tastes)
- Less formal than your event will likely be
- Songs will likely be different to what your event will be
Based on the pros and cons I’ve come to the conclusion that a combination of both approaches is probably best to accommodate both the bands and the client needs. Fir example if a client cant travel to a showcase then a wedding or corporate viewing might suit. If a client wants to see the band in a relaxed environment with their friends then a wedding band showcase is ideal but if they want to see the first hand wedding experience then a similar viewing is best. Every situation is different and a flexible approach will work best all round!
